Any plans for a 2.4GHz module?

2.4GHz does not lend itself well to the Linx product model. The popularity of 2.4GHz is largely a result of the frequency's greater worldwide standardization. From the standpoint of function, it is much less appealing and virtually useless for a narrowband product. First, the propagation is terrible, especially indoors. It is often over looked that as frequency climbs, loss and absorption also rise. Here at Linx we commonly use an illustration that is easily understood. It came from a TV show where a guy called in to complain that his brother's 900MHz phone went so much farther than his 2.4GHz phone. They gave a really good explanation that everyone can relate to. When a car with its stereo cranked up drives by, you hear the bass not the tweeters. This is because of the loss and absorption inherent in the shorter wavelengths generated by the tweeters. This brings the RF domain into the audio domain, making it easier for people to understand that higher is not better when it comes to propagation. Next, as frequency rises, the layout, antennas, feedlines etc. all become too critical to accommodate novice mistakes. Finally, interference is terrible and mounting thanks to the mass of video links, spread spectrum (SS) modems, WIFI, BlueTooth, and ZigBee not to mention even potentially leaky microwave ovens. While Linx may someday offer these types of products we believe that low-power, cost-effective narrowband products are most appropriate in lower frequency bands.
