Why does Linx require the purchase of an evaluation kit prior to selling the modules?
You may order the modules individually through any distributor, however, to order factory direct or receive technical support, you must purchase an evaluation kit for the series you will be working with. There are several reasons for this. The overriding one is that we want you to have the best chance at successfully evaluating and applying our products. The evaluation kit serves as a benchmark to quickly assess the module's performance and compare the results of your own layout and design with a stable, known reference. If you encounter difficulty, the evaluation boards provide a common ground on which to discuss your questions.
Right out of the box you can do range testing, see proper layout, even patch in your own design and have your product operating wirelessly in a few short hours. When we have tried selling modules without an evaluation kit, design problems may be unfairly blamed on Linx modules and keep our application engineers tied up with basic questions that would have been answered had they purchased the necessary kit. We have had many people, who were reluctant to purchase the kit, contact us later to thank us for requiring its purchase. In summary, we believe that the evaluation kit is an outstanding time saving value for any company serious about wireless success.
